Lisa

I am a fully qualified secondary English teacher with 14 years teaching and tuition experience. I teach students from all over the UK and internationally including those in mainstream education as well as home educated students; this includes both 1:1 and small group tuition.
I achieved a First Class Honours degree in English with Education Studies and spent the first 8 years of my teaching career teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level English. I taught part time at a lovely middle school in Staffordshire for 8 years, but left recently to focus on my tutoring business and now spend most of my time in Wales by the sea. I enjoy art, reading and walking in the beautiful area I'm lucky enough to live in. My toddler keeps me busy and I'm looking forward to learning Welsh alongside her when she attends school.

Tutoring Experience

In my previous school, I taught English predominantly across Key Stages 2 and 3, but also History and Art to Year 5. Prior to that, I taught at a highly regarded secondary school from KS3 through to GCSE and A-Level.
I cater for a wide range of ability levels and offer tailored tuition which is bespoke to each individual child. As well as working at a school with Dyslexia friendly status, I have a specialism in Gifted and Talented provision, having had responsibility for identifying these students and ensuring that their learning needs are met across the key stages. In my role as Lead Teacher for Gifted and Talented provision, I have experience of training staff to support students in this area as well as organising and delivering activities and workshops to challenge higher ability students.
I have extensive experience of preparing students for various exams including SATs, GCSE and A-level and a proven track record of success. I can also cater for adult learners. While studying for my degree, I worked as a facilitator in Adult Basic Education and helped to develop employability skills in a community and college setting.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach is calm and engaging and I enjoy creating lessons to challenge and inspire pupils of all abilities. I believe that tuition can make a huge difference in developing a student’s confidence and enjoyment of English as well as helping them to make significant progress in the subject.
