I am a violinist from South Africa and I have been in Birmingham for five years. I obtained a BMus(Honours) (first class) degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2017 and am currently in my final year of a Masters in violin performance degree at the same institution. At the start of this academic year I spent a semester on exchange at the Hochschule für Music und Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’ in Leipzig, Germany.
I have completed many pedagogy modules during my time at the Conservatoire and have observed and taught in Birmingham Music Service. I have been a tutor at Melody Music Birmingham for three years and I am very interested in music therapy. I am also a teacher on the Arco Project, a distance learning program where we teach over Skype with a music centre in Soweto, South Africa. For this program I have undergone training with pedagogues such as Jan Repko and Wiesje Miedema.
When teaching, I firmly believe in the saying ‘be strict but kind’.
Every student is unique and will need a personalised approach when teaching. I grew up on graded exam systems such as offered by ABRSM and Trinity. I also incorporate Suzuki teaching, Dalcroze and Colour Strings methods into my teaching.
I am able to teach music theory up to Grade 5 level and Violin up to university level.
