I am a friendly male English teacher currently living in Staffordshire. I have a breadth of experience from working within difficult school settings and successful secondary schools. I have been a qualified teacher for eight years; marking English Language for AQA for seven years. I have a good success rate with both boys and girls and am able to push those that struggle to help them secure a higher grade. I have previously worked in an SEMH school but currently am the Manager of a training provider in Staffordshire as well as the coordinator for the delivery of English across the company. I have a wide experience of students so am therefore well equipped to work with any ability level.
I trained in two schools; one school had a high percentage of EAL pupils (English as an Additional Language). Whilst there, I used innovative methods to gain the progress my pupils needed. I then moved to Manchester and taught in Blackley for a year. I enjoyed my time at this school but longed for the catholic ethos that I had in my own school experience so left to join a Roman Catholic school in Middleton. I was at the school for over three years but left in pursuit of new challenges. I previously worked in an independent SEMH school in Bury and had worked there for over two years. Whilst there, I was also the school's Examinations Officer. I now am the Centre Manager and Sole English tutor in one of the centres for a training provider in Staffordshire; additionally to this, I coordinate the English delivery across the company.
My approach to tutoring is one of friendly explaining of what AQA are looking for and how to secure the highest marks possible.
The focus of most sessions will be exam based timed writing - I will then mark any work with the tutee in order to explain where the progress can be made. The tutee will then refine their response in order to achieve the higher mark.
Ideally I would like to tutor online - but after discussion, there is the possibility to tutor face to face.
