As a career changer, I have been able to gain excessive experience in other sectors prior to moving into teaching.
From my own studies, I experienced learning about Paychology, Law and Physical Education at A Level, before progressing on to study Law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
This then saw me pursuing a career in Law, training to be a Solicitor before moving into academia, where I have been fortunate enough to teach both English and Law.
I have worked as a teacher for a number of years now, in secondary and further education, as an English Teacher and Law Teacher.
As an English Teacher, I have experience of teaching all aspects of the English curriculum at KS3 and KS4. Poetry is a particular area in which I hold myself in high regard. As well as Love and Relationships poetry, Power and Conflict poetry and unseen poetry, I have taught many different texts to students: Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, An Inspector Calls, Of Mice and Men, A Christmas Carol, and others.
Working in a leading Sixth Form College, as a Teacher and Head of Subject, has also given chance to gain further experience in the examination process by working as an examiner and also as part of a team developing a new Law examination series.
I have extensive experience in teaching:
- Non-Fatal Offences
- Fatal Offences
- Defences
- Police Powers
- Tort of Negligence
- Law Making Process
- Family Law
- Legal Advice and Funding
- Contract Law
Although I have experience in teaching the above on a day-to-day basis, I have knowledge and experience in other areas through my own studies and employment which I can assist in.
I like to use an open and discussion based form of teaching, based on exploring English and Law, developing understanding and identifying any weak areas that can be openly considered together.
As well as this, I would look to set written tasks to be completed as consolidation and further revision.
