Hi, I'm Leo! I have a Classics and English degree from Oxford University, and I am a friendly and engaging tutor. I have a broad range of teaching abilities up to A Level, including English, Classics, Ancient History and Ancient Greek, all of which I hugely enjoy teaching.
Having sometimes been unengaged and unchallenged at school, I understand how it feels to be pushed through the exam system without ever truly grasping why my subjects were stimulating and fun. I hope to show you how your subject can be interesting and to help you get the best out of your studies! I am happy to teach in and around Oxford, and online.
More things about me: I am enhanced DBS checked; I have grade 8 violin; and my favourite food is shakshuka.
I have been tutoring professionally for a year, and have informally tutored for longer. I have volunteered as a drama teacher at a school in Bristol and led several workshops there.
As a successful Oxford graduate, I have detailed understanding of writing and thinking well in exams and school work. I also have many helpful resources for students to learn and process lots of information, which many of my students have found helpful.
I have helped students improve from low grades and low confidence to achieving 7+ grades in GCSEs with increased confidence and subject knowledge.
With in-depth knowledge of the course syllabuses and high-achieving methods for exams, I am well-positioned to teach any level of my subject areas. I am especially used to the one-to-one style of tutoring, being an eager recipient of it at Oxford. With a student, I would put this experience to use and offer comfortably challenging conversations, where I tend to the student's individual needs and concerns.
With you/your child, I would help with understanding texts/content thoroughly and help the student articulate their thoughts in high-scoring essay responses. I am very keen on discussing the material actively with students, drawing more nuanced and original responses from the student, which can help have a more engaged and personal approach to work.
