Hi! My name is Leanne and I am a second year physics student studying at Imperial College London. I am the tutor you are looking for to not only help you succeed in but also learn to love subjects such as physics and maths. Having recently finished school, I know firsthand the pressure on students of all abilities; as a tutor I seek not only to assist students academically but also to empower them and help them grow in confidence to achieve their goals.
I have had lots of experience helping students gain understanding and confidence in physics and maths through online homework help and running lunchtime science clubs. I have most experience working with students in years 7-11 but am happy to tutor students of any age. I am dedicated to providing the best support and resources to help each student not only thrive academically but also develop learning strategies to become an independent and successful learner. I strive to have a professional yet supportive relationship with my students to create a learning environment where students can feel comfortable and able to learn.
My tutoring approach is based on cognitive research about the most effective teaching and learning methods. Using proven techniques such as retrieval practice and spaced repetition allows students to form the long-lasting memories needed to excel in their academic studies. It is important that students can create meaningful links betweennew content and prior knowledge to maximize the efficiency of learning and give the students a deeper understanding. I aim for the sessions to be challenging for the student, so they are actively processing the content and creating more durable memories. Very little is learnt passively (such as through lectures or reading notes) so my lessons will be interactive and practical. Each session will be individually tailored with fun and engaging activities to help students achieve their full potential. They should feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of each session and most importantly an enjoyment in what they have learnt.
I am committed to getting to know each student as an individual – their interests, strengths and weaknesses. I will always provide the appropriate level of support andencourage a growth mindset where the student feels they are improving. Students will be given continuous feedback so they can reflect on and track their progress. I encourage self-regulated learning and metacognition by explaining the importance and purpose of their learning and promoting self-assessment. This helps students identify and correct their own mistakes so they can become independent and successful learners.
I am a young, enthusiastic and relatable tutor who can help you develop a love of maths and physics and succeed in these subjects. Let’s start our tutoring journey together to unlock your full potential.
