I am an enthusiastic and personable individual and possess great knowledge and understanding of psychological principles. I have recently finished my Masters degree and am keen to apply my knowledge, skills, and understanding in order to help individuals who may be struggling or just require that extra push.
My previous experience involves general tutoring and a tutoring for individuals with mental health and learning disabilities. My roles have included emotional support and educational support to assist individuals in developing the confidence they needed to attain their goals and build self-esteem. As a volunteer, it was my duty to document and report back progress to parents and teachers, and to give them an understanding of what was going well and my suggestions for improvement. Further to this, I was an English and Maths tutor to a small group of year 7 students for two consecutive years, volunteered to teach English and Maths in Sri Lanka for 3 weeks of Summer 2019, and am employed by Tradewind Recruitment as a teaching assistant. This experience is what I believe allows me to possess the necessary skills required for tutoring.
My approach to teaching is nor strict or pressurising. I strongly believe that a calm and engaging approach to the subject allows for better retention of information and the development of interest in the subject, which subsequently presents better results and overall learning satisfaction.
important
due to the COVID pandemic, I will only be offering online zoom tutoring sessions. Thus far, this approach has been effective as the child is more comfortable in their own home
At the end of each session, I will assign my students to work that covers both previously learned material and introduces them to the next topic to prepare them for the next lesson. This will not be 'work' per se but involve listening to a podcast, documentary or even watching a film which is relevant to our subject. I will provide parents/carers with a 'what went well' and 'improvements for next time' document and inform them of their child's progress.
