I have a Distinction in a Master of Philosophy in Film Studies from the University of Cambridge and a First in a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History of Art from the University of Oxford. For my final result at Cambridge, I won Fitzwilliam College's Graduate Tutors’ Prize for Distinction in a Master’s Degree. I was previously the recipient of Fitzwilliam Society Trust's Research Fund for research for my thesis at the Academy Awards Archive, Los Angeles. For my final result at Oxford, I won St Peter’s College Prize for a Degree in the First Class. Prior to that, I had been given a 'Domus Exhibitioner' academic scholarship for first-year exam performance as well as the Arabella Travel Fund for a degree-related internship in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia.
I have firsthand experience of how mental health issues can negatively impact academic work and the enjoyment of school and university life. As a qualified yoga teacher, I can use meditation and mindfulness techniques to help alleviate study-related stress. I am a reliable, organised, and approachable tutor. I appreciate students with open minds and believe that the teaching process is dialogical; learning often goes both ways.
I've been tutoring for over five years. Subjects I can teach include History of Art, Film Studies, English Literature, History, Philosophy, General Studies, Fine Art, and English (as a foreign language). I also enjoy mentoring creative writing (fiction, nonfiction, poetry). I have experience supporting GCSE, A Level, undergradate and master's students.
I can also prepare students for university applications by giving feedback on application documents, guidance on the UCAS process, and by staging mock interviews. I have a particular interest in helping students with Oxbridge (Oxford and Cambridge) applications and have a 100% success rate with helping my tutees receive offers from these universities.
I can proof-read, edit, and feedback on dissertations, essays, and other coursework outside of my subject specialisms. Past examples include dissertations in International Relations, Criminology, and Biological Sciences. I tutor online using video calling or by email, or a combination of the two to suit requirements.
I have a proven track record helping my students achieve the best grades and develop a passion for their studies. My clients enjoy fast improvements which go beyond the tutoring period. A History of Art student of mine went from a low 2:2 to a high First (77) with my tuition. ‘I wouldn't have been able to achieve this mark without your help, I really appreciate it!’
In 2020, I tutored two students (ages 15-16), both intermediate English speakers, via an online platform for Cambridge E-Education Chinese Language Programme. For them I created a course that teaches History of Art to improve written and spoken fluency and encouraged creative as well as academic responses to set questions, resulting in fiction and poetry submissions. ‘The girls feel that they learn much more in your lessons than they do from their English teachers at school.’
Please contact me to confirm availability and to arrange a tutorial. A 15 minute consultation session via phone or video call is available on request, free of charge.
If the impetus for tutoring originates from a parent or guardian, I am happy to keep you informed of your child’s learning process and invite any questions that you might have regarding their development.
I require committment to tutoring in blocks of six. Payment must be made for all six sessions up front. I do charge my hourly rate for any reading time or for any special preparation I might be required to do outside of sessions. All financial arrangements will be agreed upon before tutoring commences.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
