Hi, An advanced skills teacher of English, Literature and Drama, I have over 20 years teaching experience in secondary schools, including outstanding schools such as TIffin School in Kingston. Along with my advanced skills accreditation, I hold a B. Ed Honours degree in English and Drama and am a Post Graduate of literature, specialising in issues in 20th century literature. I am extremely knowledgeable with regards to exam board criteria and assessment objectives.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught English, Literature, Drama and Film Studies up to both GCSE and A level. In addition, I have held senior posts, including Head of English and been a member of Senior Leadership in schools with responsibility for teaching and learning. I have also been an exam marker and moderator for the AQA exam board and have participated in moderation events for OCR exam A level board. As an advanced skills teacher, I have been involved in teacher training, supporting newly qualified teachers to ensure all learners achieve their potential.

Tutoring Approach

Working with all levels and abilities, my teaching approach is friendly and approachable with an emphasis on self-belief and challenge. I believe online tutoring to be the most effective in that it allows students to learn within the environment in which they feel most comfortable whilst also enabling the sharing and discussion of resources. Initially, I will discuss with the tutee what they would like to achieve and work with them to achieve the very best that they can. All students of all abilities have consistently achieved above predicted grades under my teaching and tuition. I can tutor on a one-to-one or small group (max 4) basis. I discuss with each tutee what they would like to achieve and initially assess their current understanding of the subject/task. With a range of teaching resources, my aim is to achieve a warm and friendly environment where thoughts, ideas and interpretations can be studied and discussed, thereby leading to a greater depth of understanding.
