Hi there, I’m Lara.

Communication is what drives me and helping others to fulfill their potential is always a joy. Having been working as an English teacher for the last twenty years as well as extensive experience as an English examiner, I am well acquainted with some of the hurdles students face in the classroom; classes are frequently large and teachers struggle with a range of limitations as well as demands on their time. Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching for twenty years in a range of outstanding state, private and challenging schools. I have over five years experience working as an Examiner for two different examination boards which means my understanding of exam technique at GCSE is excellent and up to date. This has been particularly helpful in supporting those students wanting to reach the top grades. Do please check out my references or contact those who I have taught to discover how well my students have done. My experience as a tutor and examiner of both English Literature and Language means that I am in tune with the expectations of the exam board. My students consistently reach the top levels or exceed their expectations. I have also spent some time working as an English intervention teacher with a specific focus on aiming to raise academic achievement from Year 7 - Year 11. I have experience with several exam boards including Edexcel and AQA. I frequently encounter students with learning needs, most frequently Dyslexia, and have developed strategies to help support them. Most children who fall behind or who lack confidence benefit from one-to-one tuition. Years spent in highly pressured outstanding schools means I have also had the opportunity to develop resources to ensure that those working at the top end are sufficiently stretched. Before working as a teacher I worked as a freelance writer creating sketches for radio and have also written and directed plays and written several books. My love for language always underpins my teaching and it is always my hope that I can foster a long love passion for English as well as the necessary skills to perform well in exams.

Tutoring Approach

Your child will find me warm, creative and easy going. I offer a free introductory first lesson to ensure that your child and I are a good fit. This will give me the opportunity to see where your child is, in terms of their English, how I can best serve them and also to ensure that your child is likely to be comfortable with me and that the relationship will be beneficial to your child's progress and enjoyable for me. Yes, it's work but I also like to enjoy it too.
