I am currently pursuing a BA in English at UCL. I achieved an A* in my English Literature A Level while studying at the London Academy of Excellence, earning full marks on my drama paper. Additionally, I secured a Grade 8 in both English Language and Literature at GCSE.
Alongside offering lessons in English, I am also happy to provide guidance on university applications, having achieved the top band of marks in English Literature entrance exams and undertaken interviews at both UCL and Oxford (including the ELAT).
During my A Levels, I served as an academic mentor for the Chrysalis East charity, where I mentored students during their summer school and assisted London Academy of Excellence teachers in delivering English sessions for high-achieving GCSE students from four schools in the Tottenham borough.
For the past three years, I have taught at an Ofsted-registered tuition centre while also offering private tuition, helping over a hundred students navigate their GCSEs and A Levels. The majority of my students have achieved grades 7-9 at GCSE and A-A* at A Level, reflecting my strong understanding of the skills needed to secure top grades across all exam boards.
My teaching approach is centered on engaging students with their work, helping them strive for excellence and reach their full potential. I create a student-focused learning environment with tailored lessons, carefully curated resources, and regular marking with detailed feedback on timed essays. Additionally, I guide students in discovering the most effective revision techniques for their learning style, ensuring they can produce clear, structured revision notes that are easy to memorise before exams.
To support GCSE students in their literature studies, I have created comprehensive booklets for each set text, focusing on key characters and potential exam themes. Each booklet includes a carefully selected collection of the most important quotes from the text, analysed to a Grade 9 standard. These booklets not only explore language and structural analysis but also connect each quote to relevant historical and literary context, helping students develop sophisticated arguments and interpretations. I provide these booklets to all my students as an invaluable revision tool, guiding their essay practice and broadening their understanding of the text.
My primary focus in English tuition is essay structure, enabling students to develop a sophisticated and analytical writing style while maintaining a clear, coherent argument and making insightful comparisons between set texts. I ensure that each student has a strong grasp of the Assessment Objectives underpinning their exam papers and help them find an approach that allows them to meet these objectives while crafting perceptive, well-argued responses.
