Hello I'm Kayleigh, I am a qualified primary teacher and mum of 2. I have a real passion for teaching phonics and early reading skills as well as teaching history to all primary levels. When I'm not talking about all things education, I like to keep up with my hobbies. I am a member of my local archaeology group and attend digs. I also volunteer at a Young Archaeologist Club in between being a mother and making time for my children.
I have been working in schools since 2009. I started off as an LSA and was trained in school to deliver an excelerated reading program to children who are struggling/reluctant readers. I went on to do a 3 year course at university. I worked in a variety of state and private schools in London during my course and supplying during the holidays. I have worked in several schools since qualifying as a teacher, mainly moving due to family commitments. I have been Computing and Science lead as well as being an intervention teacher promoting reading and maths skills to small groups of children. I have lead the phonics programme in my previous school, teaching the different phases and then delivering the year 1 phonics screening test, which the school had very successful results. I have worked with children with SEN for many years and adapted my teaching style to include a range of approaches that are suitable for a variety of learners. I worked throughout the pandemic running an online classroom, teaching live and through pre-recorded videos, so I have plenty of experience with online learning.
My approach to teaching is very methodical. I like to get to know what interests the children I teach and build a good repore in order to gain successful outcomes. I use a range of video clips, modelling learning, small activities and will occasionally set small tasks to do in-between sessions to help children achieve their full potential.
