I am a bright and enthusiastic lover of law! Studying and working in law fascinates me and I love sharing this passion with others. In terms of my academic background, I achieved First Class Honours in my LLB Undergraduate Law degree at Durham University and consequently completed a Masters of Jurisprudence (MJur) here too. My MJur is due to be published in the next edition of the European Journal of Law Reform. Alongside this I have also assisted Elizabeth Darlington, Barrister at 1GC, in editing the latest edition of 'Cohabitation and Trusts of Land' published by Sweet and Maxwell.
My special area of interest is Family Law, having been my area of research for the MJur and the subject I tutored for two years at Durham University. However, I am able to assist in other areas too. I am now working as a Paralegal alongside undertaking the Bar Course, my long term goal being to become a Family Law Barrister.
When I'm not focused on legal issues, I can be found travelling, painting and hiking.
My main teaching experience is that I taught on the Durham University Undergraduate program as a Family Law tutor for two years alongside the renowned academics Andy Hayward and Dafni Lima. This role provided me with a high level of understanding of family law, but also a module-wide ability to support university students in reaching high grades in essays.
I am also experienced in working with under 18s, having worked as a youth worker for two years. And so, although I didn't take a Law A-Level, I would be able to assist in this course too.
Having two years of experience tutoring undergraduate law students at Durham University, I have developed an individualised approach, taking time to understand each student's concerns, strengths and weaknesses. I would then mould my tutoring around this knowledge.
I would say that I have a real focus on how to write essays. I know how difficult it can be to work out what a 'first class' essay is. Having now marked university standard essays for two years, I believe I would be able to support students in reaching higher grades. Equally, I achieved high grades in my A levels (A*AA) by meticulously studying past mark schemes and papers, working out what exactly was required for the top marks. I would bring this approach to teaching A level students.
Alongside this, and aiding students to understand complex law, I aim to bring a sense of fun and enjoyment to my lessons. Law is a really exciting subject when you get into it!
