I am a qualified Science teacher and have been teaching Science in secondary schools since 2004, firstly in schools in Hampshire and since 2011 in East Devon. I completed my BSc (Hons) degree in Biology and Chemistry at Nottingham Trent University and PGCE in Secondary Science at Southampton University.
Prior to entering the teaching profession I worked as a Technical Support Specialist for a leading international Biotechnology company for 7 years and also as a Teaching and Research assistant at in the Department of Chemistry at University of Massachusetts in the USA for a year. I live with my family in East Devon.
I have taught GCSE Combined Science and Triple Science for 18 years in Secondary Schools, for the last 10 years I have also taught A level Biology.
I have worked as a GCSE Examiner for the last 5 years.
I have previously worked as a private tutor.
My approach is led my the requirements of the student. For example some students require help with key knowledge and concepts whilst others require help with exam technique in order to gain maximum marks on questions.
We will work together to identify key words and knowledge for a particular topic and then work through exam questions and mark schemes so that the student gains confidence in answering exam questions on that topic.
We will identify the command works in exam questions so that the students knows what the examiner is looking for in the answer, whether that be a written answer, a calculation or drawing/ interpreting a graph. We practice until the student has the knowledge, skills and confidence to tackle any exam question.
I currently have some availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please enquire.
