Experienced Grammar School Mathematics Teacher and Deputy Head of Sixth Form
1. 15 years of Teaching Experience in Grammar School and Comprehensive School for A Levels and GCSE students
2. Currently Acting as an Examiner for Edexcel for GCSE and A Levels Exam
I am a qualified teacher with 15 years of teaching experience in GCSE and A levels. I am very passionate about developing students’ engagement, understanding and self-confidence; motivating them to achieve their maximum potential. In my current school, I have been teaching and preparing students for GCSE and A Levels Exams (Edexcel Board). Majority of students demonstrated at least two grades of progress in a very short time. As, I am working in the grammar school, all my resources are updated and caters for new Exam Specification. With regards to A Levels Maths, I teach everything in the school: Pure and Applied Maths to Year 12 and 13 students; so, I am confident in preparing students to high standard for exams.
My teaching style is based on explaining concepts very clearly with exam techniques and then keep testing and reteaching based on assessments, preparing students for the exam process. I ensure that students are fully confident for the exam and have worked on their areas for improvement. My students over the years have left very positive feedback for my commitment towards improvement and being instrumental in building their love and passion for subject. All of my students gave very rewarding comments such as-“I helped them to improve their confidence, understanding and interest in the subject”, which I feel is the best reward for a teacher.
I have over 15 years of teaching experience, which includes 10 years of teaching experience in selective (grammar school) teaching and preparing students for GCSE and A Levels Exams, currently Acting as an Examiner for Edexcel for GCSE and A Levels exam
2. I have also worked in outstanding Comprehensive for 3 years; teaching pupils and preparing them for GCSE and A levels exams. I have also taught in Engineering Colleges in India before moving to England
My role as a Maths Tutor involves careful assessment of each student and the adaptation of my lessons accordingly. I like to take a structured and logical approach, breaking things down so they are easy to understand, and then building them back up again. I find this method to be highly effective with learners of all levels.
- I like to take the time to develop a rapport with my students and boost their confidence in their own abilities so that they gain the autonomy they will need to succeed. Using careful questioning during the lessons, I help them understand that they can find answers and produce high-quality work themselves (rather than always needing to be told what to do).
- When I start with a new student, I use an array of materials to assess vocabulary, grammar and reading and writing skills. I then approach each lesson on a week-by-week basis, addressing areas of weakness as they arise while following a general plan based on my initial assessment. Generally, my teaching style is very fluid as I do not believe in following a set course that may suit one student but not another.
- During the lessons, I use actual past exam materials as much as possible (supported by additional worksheets), so that students can become comfortable with their exam format and fully understand what is expected of them. I also like to pitch the material slightly higher than the student's ability as it encourages them to push themselves further and not remain stuck at a particular level.
