With 15 years of experience as a dedicated secondary school maths teacher and over 5 years of successful tutoring, I am passionate about teaching and supporting pupils to achieve their best in maths. I specialise in tutoring students in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6, particularly those who may be struggling or find certain concepts challenging. My approach involves providing personalised, one-to-one sessions that focus on building skills, deepening understanding, and boosting confidence, so students can excel in the classroom. I teach in line with the National Curriculum, addressing any areas of weakness and then advancing pupils to help them reach their full potential. My aim is to not only help them catch up but to empower them to thrive, moving confidently to the forefront of their class.
On a personal note, I have three children who all excel in Mathematics. My eldest holds a maths degree, my second child attended grammar school and is now studying Maths at Imperial College London, and my youngest has just passed the 11+. This personal experience gives me a deep understanding of what it takes to guide children successfully through their mathematical journeys, from early years to advanced levels.
I qualified as a teacher in 2008 and completed my induction year teaching mathematics in secondary schools, amassing 15 years of teaching experience. Alongside my classroom teaching, I have also been tutoring children for the past 5 years, specialising in those with special educational needs and those encountering difficulties in maths. I provide targeted support for pupils who are struggling in the classroom, offering the additional guidance they need to build their understanding and confidence in the subject. My experience as a secondary school teacher has involved designing and delivering engaging lessons aligned with the National Curriculum, continuously assessing student progress, and implementing tailored strategies to meet diverse learning needs. I have effectively guided students through their exam preparations, empowering them to achieve excellent results while addressing any learning gaps. My commitment to instilling a love for maths ensures that all my students have the support and tools they need to thrive academically.
My approach to tutoring is centred around creating a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to each student's individual needs. I believe that fostering a positive relationship with students is essential for effective learning, and I strive to make each session enjoyable and productive. I utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles, ensuring that every child can grasp mathematical concepts effectively. I focus on building confidence by providing constructive feedback and celebrating progress, no matter how small. By identifying and addressing specific learning gaps, I help students develop a solid foundation in maths that will support their ongoing education. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a love for mathematics in my students and equip them with the skills necessary to excel academically.
