☆NOW ACCEPTING YEAR 4 AND 5 (AS OF SEPTEMBER 2023) STUDENTS FOR 11+; KEYSTAGES 2-5 FOR ENGLISH AND HUMANITIES INCLUDING GCSE AND A LEVEL. I am a widow with two grown children both of whom I tutored and both went to respective Tiffin schools in Kingston together with their close friends with my son going onto Durham to obtain a first in Master of Maths and going onto a successful career as an actuary and my daughter to Kings College London to do a degree in Philosophy and Classics and is now also teaching as a assistant headteacher at Dr Challoners in Amersham. Having gone on to work at Langley Grammar for several years after a spell in comprehensive schools, I also tutored many of the students' siblings enabling them to follow their older brothers and sisters. Working at Langley enabled me to see the outcome of students who had been tutored and those who had not received tuition. I found that a good tutor enabled students to become independent thinkers armed with study skills that would take them through their academic career.
Having a poor tutor can also have the opposite effect and it is imperative that you select a teacher who can offer you years of experience both as tutors and as teachers as it can really make a difference. It is also important that the tutor can establish an excellent rapport both with the pupil and parents as quickly as possible. Some of my students have now graduated from many colleges including Oxford and Cambridge, London School of Economics, Kings College London, Edinburgh, Exeter and Bristol. Many have gone into careers like Medicine, Dentistry, Business, Journalism and Law to mention just a few.
I enjoy reading, freelance writing, proofreading, copy editing, exploring different cultures, watching movies and going to the theatre, travelling, yoga, tai chi.

Tutoring Experience

I started teaching in 1997 and have worked in both primary and secondary schools teaching English and Religious Studies, Citizenship and PSE, Government and Politics, Sociology and History. I also trained teachers on secondment for a year to Roehampton University and as a senior mentor and professional tutor at Langley Grammar so have an excellent understanding of what makes a brilliant lesson. I have tutored for as many years as I have taught working on a 1-1 basis and also groups. I also have tutored online in the last few years.
I am an examiner of several boards for GCSE and IGCSE and A level and gave experience of working with the new HPQ and EPQ qualifications now used for some subjects.
I have taught students for the 11+ and Common Entrance and preparation for private schools including Wellington Harrow, Eton, Cheltenham Ladies, Roedean to name but a few and I have taught SEN students and have assessed for difficulties. I have also taught students preparation for Oxbridge and have succeeded in getting 12 students to both Oxford and Cambridge one of whom is now finishing his PhD in Theology at Oxford.

Tutoring Approach

I will always assess students on my first lesson with them to assess their current level of knowledge related to the topic I am going to teach them. I will also assess what their favoured learning styles are so that I can tailor make their lessons so they can achieve optimum results. I set goals for them to achieve on a regular basis to they are constantly striving to achieve - this will encourage independent scholars capable of achieving the very best that life can offer them.
I mainly teach from home or online or at a modest surcharge can come to your house under limited availability. Online lessons are popular as this medium allows students to see a variety of techniques including whiteboard interaction, powerpoints, media both audio and video, sharing of audio and video encouraging debate and questioning which they will be used to in the classroom. Thank you.
