I am a PhD student in History at the University of Glasgow and I finished with first class degrees in Medieval history at the University of Glasgow (MSc) and a joint degree in English-History at the University of Aberdeen (MA). I have extensive experience working/volunteeering on projects directly involving historical documents such as the Aberdeen Council Registers. I have a passion for medieval history and literature! I definitely have a broad range of interests in literature and history and am quite versed in various topics and enjoy learning more.
I'm also really keen on art and sketching, photography and love myself a good book. I'm also developing quite a green thumb, so if anyone is also keen on discussing these kinds of things, I'm super happy to do that.
I have mentored IB students, both in classes and individually. Being a PhD student I also do teaching work for university students, including medieval courses, early modern, and modern courses. This teaching work also includes marking essays and any work handed in by students.
Besides standard teaching work, my mentoring work has also helped students with additional aspects of school beyond the grades. I provided mental support and provided techniques for improving the mental wellbeing of the student. I found this to be integral to helping the student not only excel in their studies but come out of their education feeling good about themselves and their mental health as well.
I cater my tutoring to the individual. I strongly believe no two students have the same requirements and therefore the work I do with each student is molded to their needs/desires/focus etc. In the initial meeting I establish what the student hopes to get tutoring in, where they are struggling and where they have strengths and determine what teaching style is best fitted for them (e.g. does the student learn best through practice essay questions, audio lecture-style sessions, quizes etc.). Each session is then structured to fit the needs of the student. I will only give 'homework' if the student feels the need for extra practice or if the student needs more time to focus on a specific area. Each student is treated with respect and my tutoring sessions are safe spaces for every student no matter what.
Aside from History and Literature, I also help with structuring essays, English language skills and helping the student learn to give good presentations.
Additionally, with my background in IB, I can provide tutoring for EE's, IA's and TOK.
