I am originally from South Wales and lived and worked as a teacher in London and Hertfordshire for thirty years . I returned to live in Wales three years ago . Since then I have worked in a range of schools in South Wales as a primary supply teacher . I have also recently achieved a level 1 qualification in Forest School education.
I enjoy jazz dancing and learning Spanish in my spare time.
I am a qualified teacher with over thirty years experience in primary school education. For fifteen years I was an Assistant Headteacher / Inclusion Manager. I am also a qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator ( SENCo) and as part of my role as Inclusion Manager I have been the school SENCo and Designated Safeguarding Officer ( DSO).
I have also enjoyed working for many years as a tutor to children who need a little extra support to make progress with their learning needs. As I am working part time as a supply teacher now ,I wish to expand my tutoring role as I find it challenging and rewarding.
I believe that its important to build a good relationship between yourself and the student. I believe people learn best when they are in a state of relaxed alertness. I aim to motivate students so they can persevere and not feel nervous about making mistakes. I try to create an atmosphere, through being approachable and being an active listener, where the student can ask questions openly . I use a variety of resources e.g. concrete, pictorial and abstract . I like to establish at the start what the student's expectations are. I believe I have the experience. knowledge and ability to teach a range of ages and abilities. I have worked closely throughout my teaching career with students with additional needs such as dyslexia Autism Spectrum Condition and ADHD. I believe I can adapt my teaching so that I can meet the needs of individual students.
