Understanding the vast complexity of the world, it's culture, religion, history and possible future has always been a major passion and focus of my life. Having a solid grasp on what shapes our world through the study of religion, ethics and philosophy, is an asset which is sought out by employers and a skill set which helps us to process our own spiritual and emotional growth as life stampedes towards us, or inevitably away from us.
I have gained a first class Bachelors degree with honours in the study of Religion and Education, a Masters degree in Peace and Conflict Studies and a PGCE in Secondary Religious Studies. I have taught in a wide range of schools, state and religious, on both short term contracts and subject specific supply.
I am an approachable, kind and knowledgeable teacher, I work hard for my students and expect the same in return. I believe engagement comes from interesting lessons and topics, which religion is full of.
I am more than happy to tutor for £15 for half an hour or £30 for a full hour.
Key Stage 4 (GCSE)
The study of religion has many different names and as many different awarding bodies at Key Stage 4 (GCSE), It may be , Religious Education, Religious Studies, Beliefs and Values, Ethics and Philosophy etc. As there is no national curriculum for Religious Studies with each school effectively choosing it's own curriculum I offer a free 15 minute introductory meeting with either student or parent to plan and tailor the specific approach needed, based on what curriculum the student is studying, what progress they have made in it and what are their strengths and areas where improvement is needed. I am happy to either assist with grasping work already being set by the school or expanding upon it for students who wish to gain high marks in the subject. One of the best possible uses of the time will be getting to grips with exam technique as this is where many students struggle.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7 -9)
As above, it is best to have a free 15 minute meeting to try and establish what the student is already studying and how well they are doing. Even though marking at this level is internal, it is best to start establishing a strong understanding of exam technique and key words and concepts as this will greatly help in other subjects if Religious studies is not taken in KS4.
Casual adult learners - Lockdown boredom or planning to study in Higher education
If you are interested in learning about Religion, Culture, Philosophy, Ethics, Conflict or Peace, I take my hat off to you and I am more than happy to help. I have lots of resources, can help prepare you for study in higher education or just give you something to talk about when we are all allowed out again. Again a 15 minute free meeting is best to establish what your specific aims and goals are.
