John has been tutoring my son in preparation for his IGCSE Physics examinations and has been a great find. John is an excellent tutor, good at explaining the topics my son struggled with and willing to help with queries outside of lesson times. I noticed a renewed enthusiasm in my sons approach to Physic and, thanks to John, he now feels confident for his forthcoming exams. We have found John to be professional and encouraging at all times and have no hesitation in recommending him.

My son is dyslexic and finds Maths very difficult. John's teaching style suits my son completely. Therefore the sessions so far have been very relaxed and extremely helpful. He is very encouraging in a non-patronising manner. His style is based on feedback rather than direct instruction, therefore there is a constant dialogue between the two. Very efficient for the booking process so I am very impressed to date.

John is a thorough teacher who is happy to go into depth in A- level physics. In addition he has been reliable and flexible and my son has been more than happy to attend his sessions.

John taught our son A2 level Physics for 6 months up to the final exams in June. He had been struggling with Physics at school due to dyslexia and unsympathetic teaching styles, and despite a good result at AS level, his confidence in the subject was extremely low and he was heading for a D grade at best. Without John I doubt he would have even been able to sit the exam. With John’s help he was able to give it his best shot and although we don’t yet know his final grade his best effort is all the result we wanted.

John’s approach is low-key, discussion-based and not at all didactic. He made sure that our son did not feel small or discouraged by not knowing the answer. Problems were worked through together in conversation, which gave him the skills to analyse questions and search for the solution himself. With this method John built up his confidence gradually, allowing him to tackle problems he had previously thought completely impossible.

John is extremely knowledgeable in a wide range of science topics and anything he feels he is not sufficiently sure of will be researched and the answers found. Even the most fundamental of questions from our son, such as ‘what exactly is electricity’, did not faze him and his answers were always carefully constructed to give the required level of knowledge without ever fobbing him off with platitudes.

John is flexible with lesson times and always prepared to be contacted by email between sessions should any questions arise. He let our son direct the learning and the pace so that he felt in control of the process. He said it felt totally different from being taught at school and he always emerged from the sessions buoyant and keen to share his new knowledge with us. He found an excitement and a pleasure in learning Physics which he had never experienced before.

I have no hesitation in recommending John as a tutor – if only teachers at school could be more like this!
