I am fascinated by all areas of language, maths, science, and philosophy, and I enjoy helping others to extend their knowledge and understanding.
I have a PhD in Linguistics (sociolinguistics) looking at the relationship between epistemology and language in academia. I have lectured in linguistics at Queen Mary University of London, and I have taught academic English in Finland for four years.
– Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
– Classroom teacher of general science (11-16 year-olds) and physics (16-18 year-olds) in London and Kent.
– Fifteen years' experience as a private tutor.
– Eight years of university tutoring and lecturing experience in linguistics and academic English
My approach is supportive and low-key. I think that students have to have time to explore their own interests in the subject by asking their own questions. This is an important part of reflective learning and will help build and maintain enthusiasm, and a calm and supportive atmosphere is essential for this.
I make extensive use of past exam questions; the best way to do well in exams is to practise doing exams! This also allows realistic monitoring of performance as tutoring continues. I normally email exam questions for students to attempt before the tutoring session.
I specialize in digital pedagogy, and I have trained other teachers internationally in online teaching and learning methods.
I am happy to teach up to 3 students in a single session. Multiple bookings have a reduced fee per student due to the moderate reduction in individual attention.
