John is a BRILLIANT tutor, we highly recommend him, he saved my son's GCSE English Language and Literature examinations. We came to John very late after mocks and my son had attained grade 4/5 and 5 in his English. Unfortunately my son was not engaged with his GCSE English, he hadn't even read his text books, but John is an experienced tutor and engaged with him for both Language and Literature.
As you can imagine my son had to undergo a very steep learning curve and John was key to that by providing guidance and insight.
My son achieved two grade 9's for his English and he also got almost 100% for his Literature examination (he only lost 3 marks in one paper and got 100% for the other paper). He achieved the highest mark at his school for English Language and a very comfortable grade 9.
All of this was down to John. Thank you for being such an awesome tutor. We can never thank you enough.

Was very helpful and got me ready for my philosophy exams in a way that was still deeply engaging and interesting not just rote memorization. Has a thorough understanding of the course and what was required from the mark scheme to get good results. For history, he provided a detailed and deep understanding of the content and helped me brush up on the knowledge I was lacking. For both subjects he was a great and engaging teacher able to explaining advanced material simply without losing any of its depth.

John has been an amazing tutor for our son who sat his GCSEs exams this year. John has only worked for a few months with our son, but the progress and results he has achieved were absolutely amazing.

In A-Level English Literature, John was a game-changer for me. I started out extremely unconfident, but John really helped me. Not only did he help me with coursework and the final exam, but he also improved my overall writing skills. He had a deep understanding of every text we studied, including the ones I chose for my coursework. He taught me valuable essay-writing techniques and introduced me to both fundamental and intricate aspects of the subject, such as contextual analysis and critical perspectives. He even went the extra mile by reading my essays before our sessions and providing detailed feedback on how I could improve.

I can't recommend John enough. His dedication to my progress went above and beyond my expectations. He's simply incredible, and I'm grateful for his support and expertise. If you're looking for a tutor who genuinely cares about your success, John is the one.

I took property law tutorials with John just before my exams because the material was too much and it was information overload. I was unable to make sense of the bigger picture for every topic and was feeling demotivated. The way John explained to me the summary of my selected topics in such a short time helped me form a broader view and understanding of the topics under discussion, which made me realise that property law can be interesting too. I would I had started taking sessions from him much earlier so that I could study the whole of property law from him. I look forward to my son taking tutorials with John for his a-level subjects in the near future.

My daughter started GCSE English Language tuition with John after she failed to reach the passing mark in November exam with results day January 12. John has been excellent , very patient and put my daughter at ease. After a handful of sessions, we've found out that her exam paper has been remarked after a Quality Check request from the exam board and she then passed the exam. This news made her very happy but that meant the tuition would end as well, which I am sad about. Unfortunately, my daughter did not find the mental strength to go further and commit to retake the exam as John was confident she could have gone up 2 levels. Just of note, my daughter has functional autism which makes communication somtimes difficult with strangers but John has established an excellent rapport from the very start and my daughter was looking foreward to the tuition hour. Therefore I could not recommend John enough! Thank you !

I had John for a total of 2 years, and in that time John not only helped me from going to a D to an A* he also helped me realise how interesting and fun English can be. John has honestly been the best tutor out there, I started with other tutors before but none were like John. His tutorials were always interesting and filled with new ideas that would help you stand out from the cohort. In my first year of taking English A Level, my English teacher was adamant that I wouldn’t get anything above a C, and a B was a stretch. Without John I wouldn’t have achieved my A* at the end of the two years. As well as helping me with English he always answered any questions I had about University and UCAS applications and was extremely helpful and supportive. I never thought I’d enjoy tutoring but with John I did! I cannot recommend his services enough to struggling students and he also has a great personality where I could rant to him about annoying teachers!

Highly recommend!! I first started studying with John when I was preparing for my English Literature A levels. Now, 4 years later, John is still my tutor, despite me going on to study Music at university. John is not only an expert at his subject and has really made my writing better, but he has taught me so much more than just English Literature alone. John had provided our daughter with on-line tuition in English GCSE. Together, they agreed a plan for the week ahead and John planned relevant assignments that both interested and challenged our daughter. She found him very approachable and flexible in his approach.
John provided prompt weekly feedback. His reviews were insightful, intelligent and helpful. He also provided additional resources that were far more focused and comprehensive than those provided either by the school or found in the usual revision aids.

John is in a class of his own. An excellent, organised, thorough and genuinely interested tutor who is determined that his students work to the best of their ability. His enthusiasm is contagious. All of his tutorials are prepared in advance, providing the session with a structured approach. He has an innate awareness for recognising when to challenge a student, when to allow them space for free thought and when to step in with further guidance. His work does not finish when the tutorial is over, he often sends out supplementary articles and academic essays to provoke further thought on a subject. His turnaround rates for work sent to him are incredibly fast. He understands pending deadlines and he works tirelessly to help with sending in work on time (even if the deadline is Christmas eve).

There is no need to look for another tutor: request John!

John is an excellent tutor. He provided tutoring in A level English Literature and we found his depth of knowledge and context on all aspects of English Lit to be invaluable. We did Skype seasons which worked brilliantly and also provided us with an element of flexibility around timing as there was no travelling involved. He was also very flexible around what was discussed each week - a play one week, a poem the next. His knowledge seemed endless and instant no matter what we 'threw' at him. Easily the best tutor we have ever used.

My daughter has had her first history lesson with John to help with A levels. John has really helped her gain confidence in her work. It is early days but so far I would say he is exceptional. He is knowledgable and positive, and makes the lesson time interesting. My daughter has gone from being stressed with her A level to feeling she has a plan. We are really pleased.

John helped our son with his English and History GCSE and we were really impressed with the trouble he took to get to know him and to see how he could be most helpful. The English essays he gives the students to work from in order to write their own are very impressive and give the students everything they need to know and much more. John has considerable intellect, teaching experience and interest in his subjects but more than that he was able to motivate and explain things in a way that reached beyond exams or grades but to things that really matter in life about being brave in an exam and being confident and believing in yourself. My son did really well and was grateful for the help as were we.

John has been an outstanding tutor. He tutored me in A-Level English Literature and History, an hour a week for both for almost a year. Every lesson was both beneficial and insightful to the point I was able to look at both subjects from a completely new angle and grow to love them more. He not only helped to prepare me by taking me through exam techniques and his own exam questions that he has devised, but he even took the time to support me with coursework and my personal statement. John was tutoring my son for almost a year in preparation for A levels, we started with history and quickly added English and Politics. My son had 3 hours a week and was very pleased with his progress. Tuition was 100% over Skype and it worked very conveniently for us and my son. John also had few catch ups with me (parent) to update on progress and areas of support Nikita required. From the very first call when we spoke about our son needs John has been very strong professional and always found ways to motivate my son to do lots of extra work. His grades improved of the course of their work together and I started getting great feedback from my son's teachers. He moved from Cish to Bish and then occasional As. We are now waiting for results of A levels so hopefully we will get expected ABB but my son's feedback was that he knew vast majority of the material and felt good about how he did in the exams which is a great achievement on its own. I would like to thank John for his work with my son and wish him all the best in the future!

That included proof-reading numerous drafts of the dissertation! Also, John helped me with proofreading two of my essays which had to be done in 72 hours and for which I received top grades. John really helped our son gain a respectable pass in his English Literature GCSE. He invested time to understand the support we required (he has dyslexia) and provided regular assignments and targeted feedback to ensure his requirements were met. We would have no hesitation in recommending John.

John helped my daughter from March until her A level exams. John’s approach was to focus , clarify and direct the learning towards the requirement of the exams. School was unable to provide such intense focussed learning. John’s sessions definitely helped her to secure an A for her final A2.

I came to John having taken two years of interruption, due to illness, from studying english literature at university. I was incredibly anxious, very behind on my course and had, because of the illness, struggled to enjoy learning for a long time. He has managed to do the two things that really excellent teachers do: make me feel excited about literature and ideas again, and put me at ease in tutorials so that I never have to feel that what I'm saying is stupid or irrelevant. Alongside that, on a more practical level, he is incredibly flexible and generous with his time, always prepared, fantastically knowledgeable about both the work and the university system and has also been really great at helping me to manage my time and work in a productive way (which for someone who has dyspraxia and dyslexia is fairly difficult). I feel very lucky to have found him as a tutor and would absolutely recommend him to anyone reading this.

My son has had two introductory A-level Philosophy sessions with John. My son enjoyed meeting John and he found the sessions very worthwhile. John was personable and professional and I look forward to him teaching my son this year.

Molly thoroughly enjoyed meeting John, on this occasion to help with essay structure and some support with writing her personal statement. He was brilliant and gave her a lot of confidence. We will definitely be trying to book him for a bit more in the holidays for specific subject help.

I had failed enlgish twice so i then looked for a private tutor to help. I instantly realised that he was going to be a very big help during the time I'd see him. So along with my new college tutor and me being given 25% extra time and a computer to use in the exam i went up 3 grades and got an A!!! Hes expensive compared to others on here but hes worth it

My son was predicted an A in English Literature but felt he needed extra support to consolidate his learning and tighten up his exam technique. John quickly understood how he could help and his sessions were extremely effective. In addition to achieving a very high A*, my son thoroughly enjoyed each session and is very well prepared for starting his degree in English at university.

John is indeed a very capable tutor who seems to have a good track record with many students. However, my daughter (16) is shy and can be difficult to communicate with. She was unable to engage with John and was therefore not gaining enough from the lessons. As it is a costly exercise, we decided after two 2 hour lessons to finish and try with another tutor.

He is an excellent teacher who is not only very responsible and punctual, but he is also always thorough.

John has been outstanding over the past month and a half. He has taught me invaluable techniques on how to research efficiently, how to think critically and how to overcome my insecurities in academic writing by just keeping it simple. Frankly, I can't praise John enough. My daughter is dyslexic and has really struggled with GCSE English, but from my first meeting with John, I knew he was the one to get her through it, and he has! John has been helping me with English Literature A Level, with set texts including Keats’s ’Lamia’ and other poems, Fitzgerald’s ’The Great Gatsby’ and Russell’s ’Educating Rita’. John has excellent knowledge of all these texts and much more. He has been excellent in helping me analyse texts and think critically. He has good knowledge of what is required for exams and essay writing.

I’ve needed help since January with the structure of my literature review and the design of my final project for my BA in Marketing. John has helped me to source scholarship relevant to my project, and clarify my thoughts about the subject. He has been very helpful and explains things well.

We had the priviledge to know John through his individual work and 1:1 tutoring support provided to our son (six grade student at Watfors Grammar School for Boys) for the last couple of months. The positive feedback and praise that our son is communicating with us (as parents) after every sessions in very encouraging and his school grades so far reflects John's hard work, skills and expertise mostly related to one subject area (English lit.) but also around learning and revision techniques as well as motivational support.

We are exploring new ways of extending John's involvement in tutoring our son for other subjects (i.e. history) and very pleased and confident in his abilities to support our son in reaching the school's objectives for this year.
