Private Maths and English Tutor in Birkenhead

I am an experienced teacher with over a decade of full time teaching experience. I am an experienced, professional tutor and have a portfolio of different tutees. Recently, I have become an educational consultant and now get the chance to visit different schools and advise them on curriculum support. In the afternoons I support a local primary school in year six helping to prepare the children for their SATS and run intervention programmes. I have experience in supporting schools to help them for their Year 6 SATS exams. I have an extremely good knowledge of both the KS1, KS2 and KS3 curriculum and the recent changes that have been made to the standards. I know what the children need to do in order to progress and reach their targets. I have taught in a variety of different schools and across different key stages. I have been responsible for the curriculum and content of many different subject areas. I also specialise in geography, as I have spent a considerable amount of time focusing on this. I studied International Development and Geography at University and have worked in Kenya. I run an organisation linking children and schools globally. Children are able to write, communicate and undertake project work together. They are able to learn from each other and share experiences. If I was fortunate enough to become your child's tutor then I could link them with another child and they can become learning partners. I have invested a lot of time researching the impact of this and I think it is extremely beneficial. It enables the children to have a purpose and further develop their skills. I am going to be undertaking postgraduate research work with UCL looking into the interconnectedness of learning and developing learning partnerships.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught throughout primary schools and I currently act as a consultant for primary schools and a secondary school where I support them with their curriculum development. I know the objectives, targets and requirements that each child has to make in each year group. I have taught both English and Maths at primary school and have enabled children to progress by looking at their gaps in knowledge and making sure that there is opportunity for children to improve in these areas. I have planned and developed different lessons to ensure there is breadth and depth of coverage. I have taught in a variety of different schools and contexts. I have taught children who have additional educational needs or special educational needs and have various different strategies to ensure that they progress. I am able to focus on areas which children find difficult or a challenge. Your child might not be SEN, but might require an intervention in a specific area in order for them to be in line with age related expectation. I have also taught in a school with a large number of gifted and talented children, who needed extra challenge in order for them to progress to a higher level.

Recently, I have become an educational consultant. I advise on curriculum content and developing a global dimension within the curriculum. This has enabled me to explore the good practice and procedures that lots of different schools use in teaching and learning. I know what schools are looking for from their children and what the children need to do in order to progress.

I have a special focus on teaching the humanities, especially Geography. The organisation I run helps to connect children and encourages them to work and learn together. I work with primary, secondary and special schools to develop a global dimension in the curriculum. I also advise them on their Geography and Citizenship curriculum. Due to my experience and ongoing research I can support people with Geography too.

Tutoring Approach

I am experienced tutor with a portfolio of different tutees. I successfully tutor a variety of different students from KS1 to KS3 and from those who have Special Educational Needs to Gifted and Talented children. I also have Geography tutees from KS3 to University Students. I enjoy tutoring as I like the way you get to spend time unlocking the potential of each pupil. Students learn best when they are excited and engaged about their learning. I am passionate about learning and hope that all my students really develop a love for learning. I want to develop confidence and resilience in my students so that they feel that they can have a go at anything.

I want to ensure that they make progress and this can be easily tracked. This is very important because the children need to celebrate every little bit of success. I therefore carefully tailor make lessons that fit the requirements of the individual child and that address gaps within their knowledge. I often do baseline assessments which highlight issues to be worked on and this allows us to track progress and address any areas that might need to be covered. I will create a plan of action and carefully plot how well they are achieving each goal from the plan.

Children learn in different ways, so I often think it is important to get to know your child and what kind of learner they are. Often lessons consist of practical activities, taught content and written work, test questions and computer based activities.

Above all, I want to listen to you and find out what you would like from the lessons. The lessons can be adapted and changed according to your specific requirements.
