Tutoring Experience
GCSE AND IB/A-LEVELS
I have been tutoring for 10 years and have helped my students to gain top grades in GCSEs, IGCSEs, IB, and A-Levels. I also prepare students for entrance to university, particularly Oxbridge, by assisting with UCAS personal statements, interpret and digest wider reading, and provide realistic mock interviews.
SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAMS
I also help younger students to improve their knowledge and skills, building confidence and enthusiasm for their subjects, for SATs or 11+/13+ style entrance exams, of which I have extensive experience. I regularly help my students gain places at independent schools including The Perse, The Stephen Perse, The Leys, Abingdon School and King's Ely.
DEGREE
I also tutor degree level students in Economics and Business from a variety of universities including Cambridge Tripos students. Please send me a message with your course details and relevant core textbook/s.
I have also been successfully tutoring online using audio, video and a virtual whiteboard on which both the student and myself can write and draw graphs.
I mainly work with long term students, hence the minimum commitment is a school term.
Tutoring Approach
I am an enthusiastic, supportive and patient tutor, and try to put myself in the student's shoes and remember how it felt when I was struggling to understand a topic. I then tailor sessions for each student to best cater for their individual aptitude and learning style, and am dedicated to help your child achieve the grades they need.
My focus is to help students 'digest' their subject, that is, to understand and apply concepts rather than just presenting them with facts. I guide my students to develop their thinking and understanding by using the Socratic method (asking questions to make students actively think), and showing how the topics we cover are relevant to everyday life. This enables a deeper level of understanding, and the ability to tackle unexpected questions in the classroom or at exam time. I tutor exam technique throughout, as this is critical to improve grades.
I prepare thoroughly for each lesson so that when I am tutoring a student we can make the most of our time.
