Hi everyone thanks for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Jo and I love to teach and make your learning experience great. I am an English as a foreign language teacher (ESL tutor) and IELTS tutor.
I teach one 2 one and groups lessons. All my Lessons are face to face or online . I am a highly motivated, organised and an experienced teacher. I have many years experience supporting and facilitating lessons to individuals and groups. I specialize in ESOL teaching English as a second language and additional learning needs. I teach general English, English for IELTS. Grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading and speaking.
I plan and deliver all my own lesson plans and use a variety of teaching methods and strategies depended to students needs. I also use specific course books which are aimed at developing all English skills. I have been a teacher for eight years and previous to teaching I worked as a Social Worker. I am qualified to teach Health and social care too. I am really good at bringing out the best in my students and working towards their individual learning needs, goals and helping them to boost confidence . I am a mum and enjoy spending time with my family in my free time .
I hold a current DBS and keep up to date with all relevant and current training.
I also have a lot of experience with special needs and additional needs and can help in this area. My son is 11 and has autism and I have worked as a teacher in special needs provisions and a senior youth worker for many years. I also work as a Neurodiversity specialist lecturer working with learners who may have autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and other ND conditions.

Tutoring Experience

I have a wide variety of teaching experience over eight years. I have worked with challenging disengaged youth and many adult learners . I have taught in schools, colleges, universities, summer programmes and specific private English language schools . I have run my own business as a reputable tutor for 4 years teaching English online and in person and worked for a prestige language school as an English teacher teaching pre intermediate English to advanced level. I use a variety of teacher learner strategies and really get the students engaged in the learning process and activities. I have over 8 years experience teaching. I have a teaching PGCE degree and a Cambridge CELTA degree which specialises me to teach English as a second language . I have taught in schools , colleges and universities.
I have a Criminology degree and Social Work.
I have many years experience with special needs , my son has autism and I trained in a special needs provision. I currently work as both a ESL teacher and a Neurodiversity specialist lecturer.
Prior to teaching and whilst in social work, I worked as a Senior Youth Worker for fourteen years .

Tutoring Approach

My teacher approach is tailored to my students and their individuality as a learner. Some students will benefit from a learner led kinaesthetic teaching approach while others need a more didactic approach and teacher led strategy. I would meet with the student, assess need and then plan my lesson according to what I feel will bring out the best for the learners potential and give the best learning outcome according to the aims and objectives.
