Joe Sharples BMus(Hons) is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied trombone under Roger Cutts (Principal, WNO), Christian Jones (Opera North) and Jiggs Whigham (jazz soloist/ educator). Also an alumnus of Chetham’s School of Music, Joe has a broad array experience performing both as a soloist and in ensembles across multiple nations and genres, including jazz, commercial and classical styles.
With over four years of experience working with students on a one-to-one basis, leading rehearsals and workshops with groups and assisting in outreach projects, I am a flexible teacher that puts the needs of each individual student first.
My core values as an educator are to: promote the development of a well rounded, versatile musical skill set (as is appropriate in today's musical landscape), encourage an attitude of discovery in the unique musical journey of each student, develop key transferable skills that serve students well in all aspects of their life (musical and otherwise), and giving my students the tools necessary to exploit improvisation as a tool for musical expression and technical proficiency.
