Joanne Laura

Joanne Laura

Hello my name is Joanne. I am an experienced and friendly private tutor for GCSE and A Level Sociology with almost 20 years of work to date within the field of education.

I am an experienced qualified classroom teacher, one-to-one online and face to face tutor as well as both an AQA and OCR examiner for GCSE and A Level.

I am a Nottingham University graduate with a BA (Hons) degree in Sociology and Social Policy.

My academic background is in social sciences , but I have taught a range of subjects from English, RE, Citizenship and Access courses at various levels from 11 to adult.

I am willing to travel up to 20 miles to assist with tutoring, or can provide online support.

During our first lesson I will devise a plan and scheme of work based around your needs and aspirations, and I will strive to help you achieve success through my excellent subject and exam know how, organisation and knowledge.

I am passionate about Sociology - sociology is life, and I look forward to working with you.

Tutoring Experience

I have almost 20 years of experience in education from being a teaching assistant, academic tutor, classroom teacher, 1:1 tutor, head of department, and recently an online tutor specialising in students with SEN. I have also been a GCSE and A Level sociology examiner for both AQA and OCR for 16 years.
I have mostly taught sociology at a range of levels from GCSE to Access courses, but I have also taught key skills in English, as well as some English teaching to ESOL students and special needs students in years 7-13.

I have worked online for over seven years since having my children and have mentored, tutored and helped to support a number of students online or face to face distance courses in Sociology and at degree level too. I have a high success rate as I have both the knowledge and skills to help you obtain that A grade.

Tutoring Approach

I am a friendly, polite, professional and flexible tutor who caters all of her sessions to her students' needs. It may be that you need help consolidating work that you have learnt in class, help with homework or exam preparation and want to focus on practising exam style questions, or you may need help with proof reading university work and getting started again writing essays after a break in your education Whatever it is, I have probably come across it in my 20 years of working within the education sector. I have the skills and tips from exam marking and the knowledge and understanding from learning and teaching sociology since 1998!
I am quick to respond to messages and efficient in my approach to learning and teaching. I will help you achieve the grade you need to get to where you want to be - whether that is university, a career change or learning as a hobby.
