I'm Joanna, originally from Essex, a fully qualified and experienced teacher and home tutor. I trained and graduated in the UK 13 years ago and spent the 6 years teaching internationally. My life as an expat teacher allowed me to travel to amazing places and experience diverse cultures and work with diverse varieties of young learners. It's been truly unforgettable and an extremely rewarding time, developing professionally as an educational practitioner and gaining unique and special memories. I love to be social and spend time with friends. I'm an avid reader and film fan too. I pride myself on being approachable, professional, enthusiastic and kind.
I have been teaching professionally for 13 years consecutively both in UK Outstanding and Good mainstream schools and Internationally located in Dubai and Singapore at prestigious private British International schools. I have a wealth of experience teaching a wide age range from Year 3-Year 12 the full English National Curriculum for Primary and Secondary English. Additionally, I am an SEN specialist, with much of my teaching with SEN students focused on those with ADD, Dyslexia, Asperger's and attention deficit learning needs. I have loved utilising my profession globally, which has only elevated my skills as an educational practitioner, developed my ability to teach to a variety of learning needs and abilities, and to a wide range of nationalities and those with English as an additional language. I now maintain work as a home tutor for all core subjects, with a specialism in English up to GCSE level.
It is essential to understand how students learn, and what engages them. To ensure I teach to suit how they learn best, always sees the best outcomes. I believe in ensuring lessons are designed to meet learning style and remain engaging. This allows students to enjoy what they do, builds their confidence and motivation and helps to see the relevance in their learning. I like to think students enjoy their lessons with me and I maintain a positive attitude and rapport with each student. I like to ensure positive reinforcement is integral and that a growth-mindset approach is followed. For students to recognise that mistakes are how everyone learns and that success comes when we learn from our mistakes, really boosts their self-esteem and ability to respond well to feedback.
