My sessions follow a planned scheme of work suited for the qualification/aim the tutees are seeking, tailored to their needs. My preferred teaching methods include investigation, learning from questions, test practice, practical experimentation, and lecturing/demonstration. I encourage tutees to engage in reading and writing when appropriate. I follow a philosophy where any subject is accessible to anyone, so that I am committed to work with every tutee whether they are new to the subject or experienced.
Mathematics sessions are likely to be focused on practice and application, at times aimed towards homework completion and preparation for exams.
For longer-term tutees, the first session will consist of an initial assessment based on the national guidelines for their level and age. For children, sessions will include learning through play to motivate and inspire love for mathematics and physics.
Language sessions will include reading, writing, pronunciation and speaking, listening, literature and culture, and of course lots of grammar and vocabulary! If you are learning a foreign language, we will discuss whether you prefer the session should be entirely in the new language.
For long-term language tutees, sessions will take a linear progression from foundation to more advanced, to check that all basic knowledge and understanding of the new language is covered and well retained. For young children, sessions will include learning through song and stories to develop love for the new language.
Tutees that have some experience in the target language will typically complete an initial assessment test, so the lessons can be pitched at the right level.
