Private Maths and English Tuition in Salford

I’m Jess, and I’ve recently graduated from UEA with a BA in English Literature.Since then, I have been Head of Social Media for The Reading Corner and Lead Researcher at The New Age Magazine. I recently finished at Plantsbrook School, where I was an Academic Mentor for Y10 and 11s.

Tutoring Experience

I briefly tutored in sixth form and since then I have also tutored some of my fellow students at university. I had a lot of tutoring growing up and I found that direct attention incredibly helpful. I currently tutor English for GCSE students at a school in Birmingham, and I have tutored many incredible students through FirstTutors! I am now looking for students/parents for the next academic year. I specialise in English Language, Literature and Mathematics up to a GCSE level, although I can also teach piano, science and history at a primary level.

Tutoring Approach

One of the biggest hurdles when tackling a subject that doesn’t come naturally to us, is not knowing what we don’t know. Therefore, my approach would start with a quick few tests to work out the overall knowledge of the curriculum, and then addressing each of the lesser known areas in more detail. We would then try and address this each session by breaking down each of the facts into more visual representations, particularly in our essay subjects. In our STEM Subjects, these hours are more likely to be filled with finding the root of where the mental block lies, in how it’s written or learn the repetitive nature of the maths behind our equations. I also believe that academic pressure is something most of us are easily trapped within, so I would like to set out some goals with my students for what they want to achieve for them beyond getting a qualification, and I really hope I can help them to love education like I do. I didn’t really enjoy school when I was there, so I’m hoping to change how children and adults alike feel about learning.
