I am a retired General Practitioner with an interest in science, especially physics, and maths.
For many years I taught Clinical and Communications skills to students at Warwick Medical School. I am married with 2 grown up children and 2 grandchildren. I started tutoring when my grandson wanted help with GCSE, and then A level physics. When he left school I missed our weekly sessions, and so decided to advertise for private clients.
I taught medical students for about 20 years.
I have been a physics tutor since 2019
I am friendly, approachable and will tailor the sessions to the needs of the student. I always start from what the student already knows. I like to hear them explain a concept to me first, to ascertain how much they understand about it. I will use diagrams, simple practical demonsrtations, videos, analogies and examples from the real world to illustrate points. I place emphasis on learning the definitions of physical concepts, and associated equations, and encourage students to make flash cards for revision. However, the most important factor in exam success is doing exam questions. I like to set questions from past papers for homework, and review the answers at the start of the subsequent session.
