I am a Cambridge University graduate in Modern Languages, German/French, and am a qualified secondary teacher in these two subjects I am a direct, practical, friendly and positive person and I convey this to my pupils to help encourage them
15 years of full-time teaching years 7-13
I am a very positive and motivational teacher, so I aim to bring pupils on with encouragement in order to give them a sense that they can really achieve and progress. I have often been described as a very calm teacher and I certainly think a calm, pro-active and positive approach is the most effective when helping young people gain the confidence to learn. In terms of learning modern foreign languages, children will have more natural strengths amongst the 4 Key Skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and my approach is about giving a child the confidence to develop the areas that are most in need of it (speaking and listening perhaps) by using the skills they are more proficient in (reading perhaps). I use the target language where possible, but also, importantly, where achievable,so that it can progress learning, rather than dumbfounding a non-native French or German speaker.
