Jason

I am a highly experienced teacher and tutor specialising in Entrance Exam preparation and Maths up to GCSE delivering high quality tutoring across a wide range of abilities. My principal aim is to develop an enthusiasm and passion for learning in my students. This is the core for developing real understanding and is the main driver for high exam attainment. I currently teach at a large independent school in Oxfordshire.

I teach the vast majority of my lessons online. I might come to see you in person for one lesson a half term but, aside from this, my lessons are held online. I have a range of resources and software to ensure that lessons run smoothly and the learning process feels as natural as possible.

I cover 11+/Common Entrance for schools in Oxfordshire and independent schools/grammar school in West London. I prefer to start early with preparation for these examinations (often years 3 or 4 for the 11+ and year 7/8 for GCSE Maths) to really embed the relevant subject knowledge and avoid last minute cramming.

I have completed first aid training and attend regular safeguarding training sessions and hold a clear Enhanced DBS certificate.

I am an active member of the Tutor Association, and have been invited to write and speak about my tutoring work in newsletters and podcasts.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored hundreds of students over the years across a wide range of abilities. All of my students have made good progress often moving up a maths set within the first two terms of working together. I am yet to have a student dissatisfied with their progress or exam results. Most, if not all, of my students at GCSE attain a grade between 7-9 and I have had students attain places at a number of independent and grammar schools in West London, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Tutoring Approach

I take a rigorous, but friendly approach in my lessons. I aim to create an atmosphere in my lessons where students are confident to take on challenging material, and feel comfortable making and learning from their mistakes. My experience as both a classroom teacher and tutor has allowed me to see a vast range of students meaning I have experience tailoring lessons to students of very high ability through to those who struggle with the subject. I'm also experienced with a wide range of special educational needs and exam arrangements. I attend regular CPD courses on the latest best practices for managing various learning difficulties in my teaching.
