Originally Canadian, I have done a number of interesting things in the last twenty years, including attaining a doctorate in History from Cambridge; travelling the world; working as a radio broadcaster; and presenting guided historical tours in Scotland. I also have a great passion for music of literally all kinds and in art (particularly animation).

Tutoring Experience

Over the past eighteen years I have taught History and English Literature in two different systems, Scottish and English. My most intensive experience lies in A-level History and English, though I have also instructed a number of students in Higher English (Scottish Qualifications Authority); I am equally at home in both! In this time period I have had the privilege to teach students from all backgrounds and from such countries as Germany, Poland, Italy, South Korea, and New Zealand.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring involves a classic one-to-one approach (though I also possess much experience in teaching groups of up to six at one time), which enables the student to help programme the sessions in advance. With my six years of teaching background I have collected a great amount of past papers, activities, and exercises to support my tutoring, but I also welcome continual feedback from each student. I am naturally patient and compassionate, and 'specialise' in instructing students who find large classes intimidating, and those who may suffer from a variety of conditions making conventional learning more challenging (i.e. Asperger's and dyslexia).
