I have always had a passion for teaching and learning English. Words hold a fascination for me. I have the necessary patience and skills to inspire children and adults to improve their understanding and use of English.
I have taught English to all ages and abilities for over 30 years. This teaching has been in secondary schools, as well as ESOL classes and FE College. I have prepared learners for major exams (GCSE Language and Literature, Functional Skills, 'A' Level English, QTS Literacy, Cambridge Advanced English). I have also prepared students for Common Entrance English exams.
As well as teaching in schools, Language Schools and FE Colleges, I have tutored students on a 1-1 basis too; this tutoring has been with native and non-native English speakers from beginner to advanced levels.
I want learners to feel comfortable with me. I believe my teaching style allows learners to gain confidence over time and maximise their potential.
My aim is for learners to develop independence in their learning. It's gratifying when, after some time, learners start to make the connections themselves. I set no boundaries for what learners can achieve, although I always ensure there is structure and purpose to the work they undertake in lessons.
