Hi, I'm James. I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a first class Masters degree in Mathematics and received the Kutner Prize for the best performance in pure maths modules among the cohort (I have a true passion for maths!). I subsequently completed my PGDipEd in secondary mathematics and am now a secondary school maths teacher, including A-level classes. I would love to help you enjoy maths a little more!
I have tutored students for 6 years across a range of abilities and academic stages in GCSE and A-level mathematics, as well as preparing tutees who are soon to start or in the first year of a mathematics university degree course.
In my sessions, I first seek to build a setting where questions are easy to ask and tutees feel comfortable. Understandably, not everyone finds maths easy, so I am always sensitive to foster confidence and opportunities for success as well as stretch to meet the student where they are at.
I endeavor to form an understanding behind the maths I am teaching so that the knowledge can be applied widely to a whole range of questions rather than just a particular "type" of question.
