I’m James —a dedicated Carer, Health & Social Care Educator, and Mental Health Practitioner with over two decades of experience spanning frontline clinical practice, higher education, and strategic consultancy. My journey began in acute and forensic mental health settings as well as community addiction services, and has evolved into designing and delivering innovative training programs for students and professionals alike.
Holding an extensive academic portfolio that includes an HNC in Health Care, a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing (Mental Health), a BSc in Health Studies, and advanced postgraduate qualifications in Alcohol and Drug Studies alongside a Teaching Qualification for Further Education, I merge rigorous academic study with practical, real-world expertise. Over the years, my roles—ranging from lecturing at West Lothian College to consulting for NHS Ayrshire & Arran and private training providers—have equipped me with an in-depth understanding of student needs and the ever-evolving landscape of Health and Social Care Practice and Teaching. My specialisms are Addiction, Mental Health and Well Being, and I have taught SCQF levels 3 to 8 which equates in England from A level to Level five HND
I thrive on delivering engaging, person-centered tuition, whether in a classroom setting or via flexible online platforms like Skype and Teams. My career is built on continuously upskilling through numerous CPD courses and hands-on projects, ensuring that my teaching not only keeps pace with current best practices but also inspires a recovery-focused approach rooted in equality, empathy, and innovation.
