I’m James, a passionate and committed full-time tutor based in Twickenham; dedicated to fostering a profound appreciation for the humanities in my students.

I hold a first-class BA in the History of Art, and a Master’s in English Literature, specialising in the Eighteenth Century, from King’s College London. My deep-seated love for English literature and language informs my teaching style, enabling me to engage students in a rich exploration of texts, ideas, and contexts.

Throughout my life, I have been an avid reader and writer of poetry, skilfully experimenting with various forms from traditional sonnets to expansive narrative pieces. This passion for the literary arts is something I wholeheartedly share with my students during our creative writing workshops, encouraging their own voices to flourish.

Furthermore, my fascination with antiques and the decorative arts enriches my understanding of cultural history, allowing me to draw meaningful connections between literature and the broader artistic landscape. I have also enjoyed a background as an antiquarian bookseller, which has deepened my appreciation for the written word in all its forms. In addition to literature, I am an appreciator of classical music and opera, particularly the exquisite compositions of Henry Purcell and Johann Sebastian Bach; I enjoy effortlessly making comparisons across the humanities to broaden my students engagement with the written word, and unlock those top marks by impressing examiners with their wider contextual knowledge.
