Hello! I'm James, a native English speaker, a working actor, tutor and personal coach. I have the tools and experience to help guide, challenge and push individuals who are looking to become more proficient in speaking English and with their Drama studies, be it academic or vocational. I am also able to help those working in business and academic environments who need help with specialist language. I work in Theatre and Film and trained at the prestigious Drama Centre London, alumni include Tom Hardy, Emilia Clarke & Colin Firth. I coach people from a range of professions from business people, to students, to actors who are looking to improve their drama studies or their public speaking skills and confidence. I am also a specialist in the works of Shakespeare and can assist with related queries.
I have a Law Degree, I am an avid reader of literature (from Shakespeare to Tolstoy) and a cinephile; I love the works of Kubrick, Sally Potter, Mike Leigh, Julia Ducournau & Bertolucci to name a few. I run my own theatre company in London, I've worked in projects for Netflix, Apple TV, had work screened at Cannes and worked across UK theatres, also winning The Stage Award for Acting Excellence at the Edinburgh Fringe.
I have four years of experience as a tutor and practitioner. I tailor lessons to your specific needs and interests and if you have material to work on or a goal in mind we will work on that. I draw upon my extensive experience as an English tutor and an Acting coach to create engaging, artistic, and interesting lessons. I believe approaching speaking through acting work leads to greater self-expression and helps students improve whilst losing inhibitions. I specialise in the methodologies of Stanislavki, Uta Hagen & Michael Chekhov. I have also used the Alexander Technique extensively. My training at one of the most prestigious drama schools has given me extensive practical and academic knowledge of theatre and the history of drama theatre.
As well as training at Drama Centre London I also spent time training at The Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute, one of the foremost acting schools in the world, and have worked with a wide range of people with differing experiences. I have also been running English Speaking Clubs for a range of different levels and nationalities for the last few months, I find when students focus on a task or game rather than what they sound like, they more easily express themselves. I've spent the last year teaching 1-1, improving speaking skills and confidence and I've also worked with students preparing for IELTS and Cambridge Exams.
I can tailor my lessons to meet your specific needs & interests and I will work with you every step of the way to achieve your goals. Book a lesson with me today and take the first step towards becoming a confident, effective and inspiring English speaker, actor or drama student. Let's work together to unlock your full potential. If one would like to develop oneself one must practice in effective ways. I have the tools and experience to help guide you, push you, challenge you and make sure you give the best account of yourself.
You may be preparing to move abroad, you may need English for work, a conference, a pitch or a speech at University. You may be a drama student needing help with their studies or an actor preparing for a casting, you may want to work on your British accent, work on specialised language or generally improve your speaking skills and confidence - whatever the task may be I'm ready to be your partner as we journey through becoming a confident English speaker or inspiring actor.
