I am a married Mum with two boys, that has always had a passion for education. My first love has always been English
I work as an English, Business, and Economics, Lecturer,
I believe that the ability to communicate effectively, and fluently is the key to the success of any young student.
All students prefer certain subjects, and I am by no means placing a higher value on English, but one of the key elements that underpin most academic achievement is a good command of written and spoken English.
My tutoring focuses on assessing individual needs, whilst inspiring students to connect by using language and literature to improve their academic and personal success.
I work with my students on a one-to-one basis, to gain an understanding of the challenges they face when it comes to applying linguistic skills.
English is about more than correct grammar and punctuation, it is about grasping literary tools and how they can help students develop a skilled sense of communication and written expression.
My focus can be on helping students improve their grades for GCSE English, as well as A-Level English.
I am to motivate students by involving them in the learning process and using texts/ideas that interest them.
I believe the best way to learn, is to actively encourage shared participation in the learning process. Learning occurs in several different ways, so it is vital to identify a particular learning style to suit each person to ensure effective learning.
It is important to me that both the tutee and parents agree that I am the right tutor for their student, and vice versa.
Ultimately I will not take on students that are not actively willing to engage in learning, as it can be counterintuitive to force learning on a student that does not want to learn.
Rarely does this occur, but it is important that parents and students alike have the opportunity to ensure that they are happy with their tutor before investing time and money into learning.
Once I am happy that everyone understands how I work, and have carried out an informal assessment of the student, I will agree on a bespoke learning program for my tutee.
Before tutoring begins, I provide a learning program, with agreed learning goals and objectives, which I like to review with parents/tutees regularly to ensure ongoing and productive learning.
The student is integral to this process, as learning will ultimately take place with an agreed joined-up working approach.
I have been tutoring privately for 9 years.
A fully qualified teacher, that works with A-Level English, Business, and Economic students, whilst tutoring predominately English Language and Literature students, pre - GCSE through to A-Level.
I take an open minded, flexible approach to tutoring as every student is different.
I like to be different in my approach and use resources to make learning interactive and fun where possible.
Tutoring should be a two way experience that is learner lead to ensure proactive and inclusive learning.
