I have a First in English Literature from Sheffield University and The Gibbons Prize for the Best First Class Degree in the Faculty of Arts. I practiced as a litigation lawyer and now tutor Creative Writing, English Language and Literature.
I also run an after-school arts club for a delightful local primary school and have a CACHE Level 3 Award in Childcare and Education (VRQ) (Distinction).
I also have experience with home-school students and am happy to provide sessions that fit with their own curriculum.
I help develop critical thinking skills for both reading and writing and focus on key examination areas. Homework will be set and discussed during each lesson, and different skills and techniques will be explained and practised. Students are always free to ask lots of questions.
With the English GCSEs, I find that extra effort with the creative writing (25% of the Language mark) and confidence in using and zooming in on quotes, together with practice in analysing new poems, can really make a difference in the overall grade. A block of six lessons can provide a great groundwork for key skills.
I am also able to help A-Level and degree level students who need guidance or feedback, and for all levels can do one-off sessions on specific topics, blocks of lessons at intervals, or ongoing, as suits the student.
