Private Online English and Biology Tutor

Hello, I’m Isabella (Izzy). I’m an undergraduate at Cambridge University, studying Human, Social and Political Sciences. I am passionate about supporting students to fulfil their potential, whether that is at GCSE, A Level, or applying to university and Oxbridge. Outside of my studies at Uni, I enjoy writing and write for Cambridge’s student newspaper. I also love swimming, and compete for the University. I previously did work experience at the United Nations in Geneva.

Tutoring Experience

University Of Cambridge Student Mentor: Since going to Cambridge I have undertaken various mentoring roles, including the SU’s shadowing scheme, in which I had a Year 12 shadow me in Cambridge - as well as providing a taste of university life, I provided advice on study skills, personal statement writing, the Oxbridge application process, and interview tips.

College Ambassador: As an ambassador for my college at Cambridge, I run webinars and give presentations in schools on applying to Cambridge, writing personal statements, preparing for interviews, and study skills. This means I have insider knowledge on what makes a successful Oxbridge application, both from going through the process myself, and now working for the University.

GCSE & UCAS Application Tutoring: I have tutored various GCSE students in English Literature and Language, History, Geography and Biology, all achieved Grade 8 and 9s. I have also marked and provided advice on personal statements, with one client receiving 5/5 offers from their respective university choices, and 1 client being invited for interview at Oxford University.

Tutoring Approach

I adopt a very flexible approach to tutoring, tailored to each individual student. I like to have a set-up meeting where we can discuss what the student (and parents if desired) would like to work on and their goals, and then map out a rough plan of what to cover, so I can go away and make study materials (notes, practice papers, revision flashcards). We can then adapt this on a lesson-by-lesson basis, for instance, in response to school feedback, or in preparation for an exam.
