I am a fully qualified teacher with around 20 years teaching experience. I am working part time at a school due to having young children at home that I would like to give more time to.
I love reading childrens books and my favourate authors are Eva Ibbotson and Anthony Horowitz.
I love to be creative especially with needles and threads.
May I add here that I am not comfortable with dogs so would not be able to tutor a child with a dog in their home.
I have taught mostly in KS2 and in year 5 but have had experience in all year groups teaching years 3 and 4. I have worked in Year 1 for 3 years and am now currently in my 3 year of teaching Reception. I have worked in a few boroughs and in multicultural schools.I have had an excellent relationship with children and parents and love teaching children to reach their full potential.
I have also enjoyed teaching year ones as I have found them to be so clever and am astonished at how quickly they learn to read and write.
I also do intervention groups with small groups of children especially reading and writing with a bit of maths.
I believe children are very good learners and absorb information very quickly. Patience is very important and children need to be explained clearly. I also think that they learn by practical means too.
Children also learn from making mistakes and need to practise their skill.
I also assess the child on an on going basis to personalise their learning. Once I feel a child has practised a skill we can move on.
I set specifics goals and objectives that the child needs to meet. If a child is learning beyond their age level I will also teach them at that level. I believe a child learns best when they understand the basic concepts and feels confident to say yes I can achieve this.
