Maths Lessons in Cambridge

I am a friendly physicist and software developer offering online and in-person A-Level and GCSE Maths tuition. I studied physics at the University of Cambridge (Clare College), graduating with Honours in 2021. I have since worked as a software developer in the finance industry, writing trade management software for commodity exchanges and brokers. I have also worked in a biodiversity startup as a data scientist. Mathematics has been the core of my daily work for many years. I am also a keen whitewater kayaker and play piano.

Tutoring Experience

Having worked through these exams myself and achieved top grades, I understand how to guide students to exam success while developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of the maths itself. I know how difficult maths- or exam-based anxiety can make this subject and recognise the importance of building problem-solving confidence alongside learning the content. My patient, calm and friendly attitude helps students overcome these issues in a pressure-free environment.
During my degree, I completed a placement as an assistant teacher at a secondary school in Cambridge for several terms, teaching years 8 and 9 mathematics. I also have extensive experience teaching and coaching kayaking to both children and adults.

Tutoring Approach

I believe a kind and supportive environment essential to learning mathematics. I take a problem-focused approach (as found at university), promoting discussion and engagement with the content. Coupled with explanations of the deeper physical intuition behind the concepts, this gives students the confidence and tools required to tackle problems in their examinations, but also new mathematics they encounter in the future.

I tailor my teaching to each student’s requirements and preferences. Beyond just the content, I can provide guidance on exam and revision technique, as well as offer written notes in addition to the tutorials. I can provide homework questions and marking (with feedback) if desired.
