I have always been fascinated by geography. Early on, my passion was with physical geography and earth science which is why I chose to study geology at university. I found past climates particularly interesting and how looking at what had happened in the past could help us understand what may happen in the future. This lead to me choosing to study Meteorology for my master's degree which then took me to the Met Office where I trained to be a frontline operational meteorologist. After many years forecasting for the RAF I decided to pursue a career I had always been interested in which was teaching. I ended up back at university, studying for my PGCE.
Since finishing my PGCE I have been working in a sixth form college teaching geography A Level. I am just entering my forth year of teaching. For the past two years I have also been an examiner for AQA. I have extensive knowledge of the AQA A-level syllabus and the skills required to answer exam questions successfully. I also have extensive knowledge of the NEA element of the course and how to complete an investigation of high quality.
Every student is different and has different strengths and weaknesses. I will make sure that content is adapted to the student's needs. I can help students understand content with a variety of methods such as mind maps and Quizlet. For exam practice I will model answers, provide writing frames and show students how to break down questions. Ultimate I will strive to find a technique that works forward student and then build on from that.
