I am a highly accomplished individual with a distinguished educational background and extensive experience in both academia and the corporate sector. Originally from Hong Kong, I received my secondary education at the prestigious Ying Wa College before pursuing my GCSEs and A-Levels in the United Kingdom. My academic journey continued, and I earned an MSc in Finance at the University of Manchester.
In 2017, I decided to hone my teaching skills at MMU, where I was recognized as an outstanding student during my training as a Secondary Maths teacher. Although I joined the UK's largest medical insurance company after receiving an irresistible offer from them towards the end of the training, my passion for nurturing young minds drew me back to the world of tutoring shortly afterward.
As an educator, I derive immense satisfaction from witnessing my students’ progress and accomplishments, knowing that I play a pivotal role in shaping their futures.
Throughout my extensive corporate career, I have embraced the role of a mentor, guiding and nurturing new joiners to succeed in their professional endeavors. Beyond the corporate realm, I have also garnered a wealth of experience as a dedicated Maths tutor since 2018, teaching students ranging from five years old to those approaching GCSE level. Additionally, I specialise in tutoring students for the rigorous 11+ exams, ensuring their preparedness for significant educational milestones.
I have received glowing testimonials from countless individuals who have benefited from my unique ability to demystify complex concepts, making them accessible and understandable for students.
One of my most significant achievements is the remarkable journey of a student whom I successfully guided to secure admission into one of the region’s most prestigious grammar schools, defying the doubts expressed by other tutors.
With a wealth of experience and a background in studying Maths in both Hong Kong and the UK, I adeptly blend the strengths of both educational worlds to facilitate my students’ excellence in the subject.
As a firm advocate for early Math specialization, I place utmost importance on building a strong foundation from a young age. This approach fosters sustained interest and confidence, enabling students to tackle more complex concepts, including 11+ exams, with ease.
I wholeheartedly endorse the effectiveness of group lessons, where students actively engage in “learning-by-teaching” resulting in a deeper grasp of concepts and improved knowledge retention. These lessons also nurture invaluable skills such as confidence, communication, and presentation abilities - qualities of immense value in the long term. Group lesson rates vary depending on the size of the group and the length of the lesson, but in my experience, 90 minutes is probably the optimal duration.
My tutoring approach is centered on empowering students and equipping them with the essential tools for success, ensuring they reach their fullest potential in the future.
