I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher and tutor. As an avid lover of literature, I aim not only to support my students academically, but also to help them gain confidence as a learner and reader of literature. I am friendly and personable, which makes every session enjoyable - even if English isn't their favourite subject! Having recently moved to Richmond, I am looking forward to meeting local families and helping students flourish.
I have worked in private, grammar and comprehensive school settings, working with a full range of students, including those with SEND challenges and those who have gone on to study English Literature at Oxbridge.
As a teacher, I worked for seven years at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. As Second in Department, I was responsible for the curriculum, resources and support across the school, as well as teaching my own classes. We received an "Outstanding" grading from Ofsted in May 2024, with noted praise for the English Department in the full report.
As a tutor, I have had great successes with the 30+ students I have tutored since 2019. Students greatly benefit from my practical approach to analysis, my in-depth knowledge of exam texts and my detailed essay feedback. I have high standards for all my students, which reflects in the nature of my tutoring.
I am offering standard tutoring sessions, but I am also available for:
- UCAS personal statement support
- Essay marking
- Essay marking and feedback sessions
- Revision support
- Creative writing
I have experience teaching all year groups and all abilities so I have accumulated a broad scope of skills and resources to make learning and writing enjoyable and accessible. Most notably, I approach analysis in a formulaic, practical way that can "de-mystify" what can sometimes be viewed as overly-complicated. Having taught predominantly exam classes for the last 7 years, I have a real strength in exam-preparation and mastering the art of essay-writing. Whether it is focusing on overcoming a challenge, or helping them thrive, I would love the opportunity to help your son/daughter progress.
