I am a mum of 2 grown up children. I understand the needs of parents to help support their children through filling in the gaps in their education and understanding. I have a love for teaching and inspiring young people. I have been a teacher for 30 years. My aim is to inspire and encourage confidence. I live and teach in the Barnsley / Wakefield area. I find teaching a rewarding career.
I have taught in both secondary and primary schools. I taught secondary science for 10 years covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics with some A level Biology.
Since starting a family in 2001 I have taught in primary schools mainly in y Y4, 5 and 6 but also in KS1. In KS2 I taught Maths, Literacy , Grammar and Science
I have tutored Maths and Science for GCSE and find tutoring benefits the student by bringing them up at least 1 grade in their exams. Tutoring also gives the student confidence and enables them to feel more relaxed about the subject as it alleviates their fears.
In the past I have good success enabling students to pass their Maths GCSE and go off to university.
I am happy to give revision sessions for 11+ entrance exam.
I have many years of teaching experience and have a dyslexic child. I understands the needs of children with this problem. It is a short term memory problem but can be overcome to some extent with patience and support. I have experience of teaching spelling patterns and sentence structure; I have undergone training in Dyslexia to help my own child. I have also experience of teaching students with Dyscalculia - maths dyslexia. where the student cannot sequence number operations.
Every student is an individual and I target my tutoring to support their understanding at their level.
If I were tutoring GCSE I would start with past papers concentrating on gaps in the students understanding then building in lots of repetition until their confidence is lifted and their understanding becomes embedded.
I don't set home work, but if a student wants me to go through anything they they do not understand or needs anything re-explaining then i am happy to go through it with them as many times as it takes.
