Helen

Private Biology Tutor in Brighton

I am an experienced Biology and Environmental Science teacher and I have been teaching A levels in a sixth form college for the past 20 years as well as privately tutoring. I have an Honours degree in Zoology and Plant Biology from Leeds University, an MSc in Conservation Biology from the University of Kent at Canterbury, and a PGCE from Exeter University. As well as being an A level Biology teacher I have worked for many years in environmental education in countries such as Zimbabwe, setting up conservation and environmental workshops for school children and their teachers. I can therefore also bring a wealth of experience of education and learning from outside traditional school life, as well as the British exam curriculum.

Tutoring Experience

I am an Expert Examiner for A level and GCSE Biology, as well as A level Environmental Science and Marine Science, and I have been a private tutor for many years. I have helped many students achieve the grades they need for further study and higher education. I am currently working in the sixth form sector teaching AS/A level Biology and AS/A level Environmental Science. I have worked as a teacher in secondary schools and sixth form colleges for the past 20 years. I also offer Medical / Vet school and biological sciences mock interviews for sixth formers.

Tutoring Approach

I am a dedicated tutor who looks at how to improve exam technique and confidence, as well as subject knowledge. Each student is different, and I believe in setting initial achievable steps which will lead to exam success as well as confidence in the classroom. This will also help students develop independent learning and study skills outside of lessons. I am adaptable and think about detailed solutions regarding why a student needs extra help in their learning, and I will be clear about what a student needs to do in order to improve and how to keep on improving throughout their course of study.
