I am a senior examiner for Edexcel, with 94% of my tutees gaining A* and the rest A in the 2023 A-Level exams. Unlike others, I do not teach other subjects - my energy and effort is solely focussed on Edexcel A-Level Politics. As a experienced Teacher and Senior Examiner, I know the spec and A* exam technique inside out.
I have also helped several publishers to edit their new Politics textbooks and to create resources for students. I examine and specialise in the following topics for Edexcel Politics:
UK Politics
UK Government
Political Ideologies - Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism and Feminism
US Politics (Comparative Theory)
My tutees also have access to my online resources - I am unapologitically organised with these - there is a full lesson, including PPT, resources and A* essay plans and full essays for every part of the course. Please find examples of these resources on my profile.
I am proud that many of my tutees have gone on to study Politics/PPE/HSPS at Oxford and Cambridge, with 4 doing so last year.
As well as tutoring, I also offer 'exam masterclass' sessions during weekends/school holidays. These are 2-4 hour intensive sessions (that can be a one-off or more regular) that go over A* exam technique, example A* essays and essay plans and key hints and tips for the exam.
In addition to being an Associate Assistant Headteacher, I have been Head of Politics at an Outstanding school in London for 10 years, and have taken on private tutees for the last 11 years of my teaching career.
Prior to working in Education, and graduating from UCL, I worked in the House of Lords and for several political campaigns. This experience in frontline politics has given me a first-hand insight into the workings of British Politics.
I have also worked for many years in citizen engagement, particularly among young people. I have worked closely with several organisations to encourage participation among young people, particularly in politics and civic duties.
As a senior examiner, my aim is to transfer key exam skills and 'exam hacks' to students, including memorisation techniques and 'need-to-know' information. I will provide students with a comprehesive list of possible exam questions, as well as e-copies of all relevant textbooks if they need. In addition, I will provide 'A* grade example answers for each questions we work through together.
I truly believe that, in order for a student to achieve their full potential in any subject, a positive atmosphere must be established in which they can flourish and explore the things that really interest them; this is the beauty of Politics and Citizenship; young people can form opinions on and debate current issues, and take action.
As with all my teaching, I strive to build relationships with my tutees; to understand their needs and to accommodate appropriately.
